Day Four- Glendalough and Powerscourt

Today was our first official day in Dublin, Ireland! We spent this morning walking through O'Connell St, which is one of the big tourist streets and where our hostel is located. At 10:30AM we got on a tour bus for a 6 hour tour to Glendalough and Powerscourt!

The tour bus took us a bit around Dublin and the guide told us lot about everything we saw along the way. We then drove about an hour south to Glendalough.

Glendalough is the largest old monastic site in Ireland! It was founded by St. Kevin in about 1000 and was added onto for the next few centuries until it became like a small village. However, all that remains now is the watchtower, the Priest's House and the ruins of the cathedral. Nearby, there was a walking trail through the forest to a calm lake.

We then headed back up north through the Wicklow Mountains to Powerscourt Estate. The mountains were beautiful and the rolling hills were so green!

The gardens at the Powerscourt Estate have been voted the 3rd most beautiful in the world by National Geographic! The gardens have several sections including a rose garden, a forest with exotic trees, and a Japanese garden.

The building was originally a 13th century castle owned by the Viscounts Powerscourt and was substantially renovated in the mid-1700s. It now has several shops, a visitor's center, and a cafe.

We recently got back from our bus tour and are about to go on our hostel's nightly pub crawl! Alexander is a little apprehensive, but he admits that this trip is all about trying new things!
I will of course let y'all know how it went:)
