Day 122- Boat Ride to the Volcano and Hot Springs

Today after our breakfast, we headed out to catch the boat that we booked the day before. We climbed down the cliff (532 very steep 3 meter steps) and got on one of these super cool boats!

The 15 minute trip to the volcano gave us great views of the island behind us!

It was cool to be on a giant landmass of just rock!

We had an hour and a half to hike around the volcano. There were several craters where the volcano has erupted from. The one I’m standing by is from the most recent eruption in the 1920s!

After our exploration, we all got back on the boat and went over to the little island behind the volcano. It is a little cove where people can swim in a hot springs! It was a little chilly for me and Alexander can’t swim so we wouldn’t be able to make it past the 25 meters of cold ocean water before reaching the springs. Only 2 people on our boat decided to do it and they said the water wasn’t even warm anyway! However, I think everyone enjoyed laying in the sun on the boat and enjoying the views!

Once we got back to the main island, when everyone else took the cable car or a donkey back up the hill, we walked it! By the time we got back up, it was time for a late lunch in town. We got gyros again, because, YUM! And we of course had to have another one of those amazing waffles!

After our tasty treat, we went back to our room and about that time we got to see one last Santorini sunset!

Day 121- Sun and Wind

Today, we woke up to a bright and sunny day!

We had our fresh breakfast from the bakery brought to us by the people who run our hotel/AirBnB and then we headed out!

We walked around all afternoon! It took us quite a while to get around since it is very hilly and the streets are very rocky and steep.

The wind today was crazy, though! When we were walking along paths with short walls guarding us fro the cliff, I was worried we would be blown off! I did not like Alexander standing this close!

I took a picture of this tree to show the wind. You can also see in the background a bunch of donkeys! They are used to carry people and goods up and down the cliff. The ones we saw were carrying bags of concrete for buildings.

Before heading out for some dinner, we caught the sunset yet again! We love how it lights up the buildings on the hillside.

For dinner, we walked back into town (which was kind of difficult in the dark!) and found a gyro place! Like in Athens, they were only about 2.50 Euros a piece! Since it was such a bargain, we went to another place and shared a waffle for dessert! It was the best waffle we’ve ever had!
