Day 58- Rijksmuseum and Romantic Dinner on the Canal

Today we spent the morning hanging out in our apartment for a few hours before heading out for the day. We took the tram to the Rijksmuseum, but first we stopped over at the Apple Store. Alexander has this new goal of visiting different Apple stores along the way which I think is crazy- they all look the same!

Anyway, while we were there we played with the new iPhone 8s and apparently since the place had really good lightly, he wanted to take some glamour picks in the store...

So after our Apple Store shenanigans, we walked over to the museum. The Rijksmuseum is a well known art museum housing great works by artists like Vermeer, Rembrandt, and Van Gogh! Some were quite famous like Vermeer’s “The Milkmaid”, Rembrandt’s “Night Watch”, and Van Gogh’s “Self Portrait” to name a few!

The museum was also a work of art itself! The building is quite beautiful!

In front of the Rijksmuseum is a giant sign that says “I amsterdam” where a lot of tourists take photos! So, naturally we climbed on that bandwagon!

After a couple ours of wandering the city, we had a romantic dinner along the water! The bridges were all lit up, and the reflections on the water were spectacular!

Day 57- Canal Tour and Ice Bar

Today we had a beautiful brunch right on a canal close to our AirBnB! It was a brisk morning so we both enjoyed some hot chocolate.

We then headed to town on a canal tour! It was our favorite one yet! I think we are both falling in love with the beauty and culture of Amsterdam!

While on our tour, we passed by several tilted houses! They are called the “dancing houses” because they have each settled at weird angles and since they are historically significant, they can’t be fixed!

After our tour, we walked along the main tourist shopping center and I found a super cute and warm trench coat from Zara! It is perfect for our evenings out because it is classier and keeps me warm without having to wear several layers like I have been!   Then, we had another early dinner sitting on a canal! We bought some cheap sandwiches and watched the world go by while we ate! We got the idea from local people our age who we saw doing the same thing along our canal tour.

Later in the evening, we went back out and walked along the Red Light District. It is definitely a unique and open place!

Then, we went to the Amsterdam Ice Bar! It is quite the experience! We start in the lounge where you have cocktails and then watch a video about an expedition we are about to take to the north! Then, everyone gets gloves and a parka and we head into a giant ice box! It was fun drinking out of glasses made of ice! We each had nutella shots! However, it didn’t take long for the novelty to wear off when our fingers and toes started to get cold!
