Day 47- Day Around Kassel

Today we woke up, got ready, and got on a train to Kassel. There, we were greeted by Renate and Norbert (Renate is another one of my Grandpa's cousins and is Manfred's sister)! We spent the day with them and they showed us several great places that we wouldn't have been able to see on our own!

The first stop on our adventure was at the Hercules statue in Kassel! The structure towers over the city and has a fountain that runs down the hill. From here, as you can tell from the photos, you have wonderful views of the city!

From Kassel, we then drove to top of Hoher Miessner for lunch. We ate at an adorable traditional German restaurant and had bratwurst and dumplings! The views were of course great and the food was wonderful too!

After lovely lunch and lovely company, we continued driving and came to Frau-Holle-Teich. It is a lake that is named after the Grimm fairy tale of Frau Holle!

Next, we went to the DDR Frontier museum! There we were able to see the original wall built between East and West Germany! In the museum, there were many photos and documents showing the recent history of Germany, specifically the DDR.

However, I think Alexander's favorite part were the old tanks and helicopters.

We then went to Hanstein Castle! This structure is also easy to see from afar! Although it is in ruins, the castle is still so impressive to behold!

Our final stop before heading home was Renate and Norbert's beautiful home! There they showed us their garden, (which is so beautiful I could live in their backyard!) and they were so kind to have us for dinner!

When we finished eating, we headed back to the train station to get back to Marburg where we are now getting ready for bed!
