Day 155- Drive to Ngorongoro Crater

Today we packed up and brought our bags for our journey back to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.  However, we spent the morning in the Serengeti looking for cheetah! Unfortunately, we didn’t see any, but we did see a lot of other animals!

This mother hyena is guarding her babies who are in the den below! They only put their heads up for a quick second so we didn’t get a photo.

After stopping again for lunch, some storm clouds started heading our way. Since we were on some small, already muddy roads, we needed to rush back to the main road before it started to pour! Thankfully, we made it just in time!

From there, we started our drive to Ngorongoro. Along the 4ish hour drive, we stopped at the lookout over the Ngorongoro Crater! It is 20km across and home to all of the big 5 game animals!

Then we drove around the edge of the crater to our lodge that overlooks the crater! Once we arrived, we worked on getting our Indian visas and then we ate some dinner!

Day 154- Full Day Game Drive in Serengeti

Today we spent the full day driving around the Serengeti and seeing all of many, many animals!

We started out at 8AM and almost immediately saw a large group of elephants right by the street! They were just too cute! Especially the 1 week old baby!!

After watching the elephants slowly migrate away from us, we keep driving deeper into the park. We continued seeing more and more animals! Some highlights included watching a family of baboons, seeing giraffes eating out of the trees (we also saw one sleeping with its head up!), and some sleeping hippos! They were all cuddled up and every now and then they would come up for air and spray some water.

At about 1PM, we stopped at a little picnic area on top of a hill where we ate our lunch box meals while looking out at the park!

After lunch, we got some close up experiences with the big cats! First, we got about 10 ft away from a  young male lion! He was laying in the grass with two females. They were so cute and soft looking, I just wanted to pet them! Other than glancing at us, he really didn’t seem to notice we were there!

You can definitely tell that all of the animals in the Serengeti know that humans that come in these big trucks are not a threat,  because many of animals do not react when we drive up to them!

Second, at the end of the day, just before we were planning to head back, we saw a leopard sitting in a tree! However, we then watched it jump out of tree and start walking down the road! Us and about 20 other cars followed it until it crossed right in front of us! Apparently it was a rare and lucky sight!!
